What's Blekko all about?

Good post on it here. Might be worth a look in the future.

About time...

I've been neglecting this for quite some time now, so here's me giving it another go. I thought I might start posting about some of the work I'm doing instead of concentrating on productivity and stuff (Lifehacker does a pretty good job of that anyway).

My newest client is the Go Eco Store, an e-retailer of eco products and eco gifts. I'll be working with them on content and SEO, and I'll post some of the interesting stuff that pops up here as I go.

The Ecobutton

OK, this isn't strictly internet related, but it's quite good fun and I think its going to save me a few quid, as well as ease my conscience!

Sometimes I dread to think how much energy I waste during the day, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go...

I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Web conferencing - DimDim

Here's a good one. Webex is a pretty decent web conferencing solution, and I've used it plenty of times. However, it isn't free, or even particularly cheap. If, like me, you only need to work through presentations and files in real time once every few weeks, there's no point shelling out.

DimDim is nice and functional open source alternative, and pretty simple to use. Unfortunately, it hasn't got full presentation support for Linux at the moment, but when they sort that out, it'll be even more appealing.

Why Zotero is brilliant...

In my spare time, I'm studying for an MA in Creative Writing at the UEA. It's great fun, but I've found writing academic essays a bit of a shock - due to a misspent youth and a rather bizarrely run undergrad degree, it's something that I've managed to get away with until now.

Anyway, I now know that citations can be a pain in the arse. Last month, I started using Zotero, a Firefox add-on for citation management and it works a treat.

It doesn't make writing the things in the first place any easier though...

Outlook 2007 lost file issue

I've been working onsite for a client today and using the dreaded Outlook 2007 as opposed to my preferred Spicebird.

Typically, I was editing and saving a presentation I'd been sent direct from the mail itself without hitting 'Save As.' The second I closed the file, it disappeared deep into the bowels of Outlook. Luckily this blog told me how to find it again.

Well done that man.

Well, here we go...

Welcome to my first foray into the world of blogging. The purpose of this blog is to share some of the useful things I come across working as a web professional, in particular tips and tricks for increasing productivity and keeping software costs down for small businesses.

I'll post in more detail later, but to get the ball rolling here's something fun for those of you that haven't come across it yet -Spotify.

Cheers!
